All of our lessons consist of HD video lessons with written explanations along with downloadable music notation and guitar TAB.
You can view, pause, fast-forward, slow down, and re-watch videos whenever you want, as many times as you want.
As a member, you can also utilize the class discussion comments section below each lesson to share your thoughts and get feedback on your playing.
Curricula for our lessons are designed by each artist in collaboration with our Los Angeles-based team of master’s-level educators and pro touring guitarists.
Pickup Music offers two types of lessons:
Longform lessons
Learning Pathways – Our most up-to-date and guided learning format. Pathways will take you from beginner to advanced in various styles of guitar. You'll know exactly what to work on at every step of the way.
Bootcamps – Our first foray into truly guided learning with daily practice exercises. We're gradually replacing Bootcamps with Pathways.
Master Classes – Our original class format. Usually, these give you a condensed learning experience where you can spice up your playing with new concepts and techniques. We still release new Master Classes, but they're more of a "peek behind the curtain" at an artist's playing style.
Our most popular lesson format is our in-depth guided Learning Pathway. Each Learning Pathway is broken into digestible "grades" with daily practice exercises, interactive assessments to benchmark your progress, live-band backing tracks, and personalized feedback on your playing. This is the most in-depth and guided way to learn guitar online.
We also have Master Classes, which are typically less exhaustive but will give you a jam-ready exploration of a particular genre or a behind-the-scenes look at a popular guitarist's playing style.
Shorter lessons
We know your time is valuable. If you're looking for shorter lessons focused on key techniques, we offer five other lesson types:
SongSquad – Short learnable songs. Written, performed, and taught to you by our roster of elite artist-educators. Music notation and TAB are included.
Essential Licks Packages - A collection of 10 licks or riffs by a featured Pickup artist. For each lick, the artist teaches you how to play it and apply it to your own playing. We release a couple of new licks packages every month.
5-Minute Lessons - Quick lessons covering essential topics.
Jam Tracks - Downloadable backing tracks to jam over.
Christmas Carols - Solo guitar arrangements of popular Christmas carols with included lesson videos.
