A half-diminished or min7b5 chord is the seventh chord in the diatonic chord scale and consists of the root, b3, b5, and b7.
It is commonly used as the ii chord in a ii-V7-i progression that resolves to a minor chord.
The chord is built off the seventh mode of the major scale.
