On the staff, notes can be identified on the staff based on their location relative to the staff’s lines and spaces.
On the treble clef, the lines (from bottom to top) represent the notes E G B D F, and spaces between the lines are F A C E. On the bass clef, the lines (bottom to top) represent the notes G B D F A, and the spaces represent A C E G.
Notes are assigned corresponding letters A,B,C,D,E,F,G as a way of communication. With accidentals, there are 12 notes in Western music.
