Does Pickup Music charge sales tax, VAT or GST?
Pickup Music is rolling out sales tax in applicable US states, and VAT, GST, and other indirect taxes for customers where required by law. The tax amount applied to your subscription depends on your billing address and the tax regulations in your jurisdiction.
Why is Pickup Music collecting tax now?
As a consumer software provider operating globally, Pickup Music is required to collect and remit indirect taxes in an increasing number of jurisdictions. We’re updating our billing practices to meet these obligations and ensure compliance with local tax regulations.
Will every member be charged tax?
No. Tax is only applied in jurisdictions where Pickup Music is registered to collect it. If your billing address is in one of those jurisdictions, you’ll see tax applied on your subscription invoice. If it is not, your subscription will not include tax.
Does this apply to subscriptions purchased via Apple on the iOS app?
No - all taxes are handled separately by Apple for purchases made via the app on iOS.
When will members start seeing tax on their subscription invoices?
We are progressively rolling out tax collection across US and international jurisdictions. The roll out begins on July 1, 2026 and will continue over time as we meet sales tax collection requirements in different jurisdictions.
Do I need to do anything?
Pickup Music will automatically calculate the applicable tax based on the billing address associated with your subscription. Please make sure your billing address is up to date in your billing portal.
There are two cases where action may be needed:
If your purchased a membership as an organization that is VAT- or GST-registered: make sure you have entered a valid Tax ID in your billing portal. This allows us to apply the correct tax treatment, such as reverse charge for eligible B2B transactions.
If your purchased a membership as an organization that is tax-exempt, submit your exemption certificate to [email protected] so we can verify and apply the exemption to your organization.
What if my organization is tax-exempt?
If your organization qualifies for a tax exemption, email your exemption certificate to [email protected]. Our team will verify the certificate and update your account accordingly. Once approved, tax will no longer be applied to your invoices.
How does tax appear on my invoices?
Tax is shown separately at the bottom of your invoice, clearly broken out from the cost of your membership. This makes it easy to distinguish between your subscription costs and any applicable tax.
